Synthesis of ZnO/Bi2S3 Core/Shell Nanowire Array Photoanodes for Photocathodic Protection of Stainless Steel

Nanocrystalline Bi2S3 shells were conformally deposited on ZnO nanowire arrays via a successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction approach. Microstructure, optical, electric properties of the as-prepared ZnO/Bi2S3 core/shell heterostructures thoroughly investigated using various characterization electrochemical methods. Compared with pristine photoanode (?734 mV 0.57 mA·cm?2), type-II heterojunction exhibited more negative shift in coupled open circuit potential (?862 mV) higher photocurrent density (2.92 achieving effective photocathodic protections for 304 stainless steel under solar illumination.
